Clifton Insight is a network of academic researchers working as consultants in evidence synthesis and health economics to world leading pharmaceutical companies and health economic consulting companies. We were founded in 2014 in Bristol by Dr Howard Thom, who is still our Director. Our team of roughly 10 people hold positions at Universities across the UK but are primarily based in Bristol. We have provided expert advice and analytic support on dozens of health technology submissions to both UK and international payers, including the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence. Our involvement ranges from advising on reviews and analysis to conducting every aspect of a submission, from systematic literature reviews to economic models.

Our team are all involved in pathbreaking applied and methodological research across the spectrum of health technology assessment. Topics on which we have developed new methods include automating systematic reviews, disconnected networks in network meta-analysis, survival outcomes network meta-analysis, population adjusted indirect comparison, multistate modelling, structural uncertainty in cost-effectiveness models, and value of information analysis. Our applied research has been across a wide range of diseases, covering rheumatology, dermatology, psychiatry, cardiology, neurology, oncology, and haematology. We are excited to bring this expertise to bear on your problems in health economics and outcomes research.

Howard Thom

Founder & Senior Director

Howard Thom has over 15 years’ experience in evidence synthesis, statistical modelling, and economic modelling. His research interests include network meta-analysis, model uncertainty, and value of information analysis. He has published over 70 peer reviewed papers and is also a Associate Professor in health economics at the University of Bristol.

Edna Keeney

Research Scientist, Statistical and Health Economic Modelling

Edna Keeney has over 10 years’ experience in evidence synthesis, statistical modelling, and economic modelling. Her research interests include network meta-analysis and cost-effectiveness modelling under decision and methodological uncertainty. Before joining Clifton Insight, she spent 9 years working at the University of Bristol on a range of applied and methodological projects. During this time, she spent 2 years working as Scientific Coordinator of the NICE Guidelines Technical Support Unit and completed her PhD looking at methods for the cost-effectiveness modelling of screening interventions.

Christopher Fawsitt

Director, Statistical and Health Economic Modelling

Christopher Fawsitt has more than 10 years’ experience in Health Technology Assessment, with specific expertise in economic modelling. His research interests include evidence synthesis, statistical modelling, and cost-effectiveness modelling under conditions of decision and methodological uncertainty. Before joining Clifton Insight, Christopher worked as Senior Health Economist at the Health Information and Quality Authority of Ireland, one of the country’s lead HTA agencies.

Jennifer Amarachi Nwocha-Chiedozie

Jennifer A. Nwocha-Chiedozie is a management professional with over 4 years' of experience across HR, finance, and team leadership roles with a background in telemedicine, cosmetics, events, and childcare management. Responsibilities at Clifton Insight include contracting, legal requirements, finance management, staff onboarding and general administration.

Alexander Jarde

Research Scientist

Dr. Alexander Jarde earned his PhD from the UAB specializing in research methods and quality assessment for systematic reviews. He has since applied his expertise across various fields such as epidemiology and global health. Dr. Jarde joined Clifton Insight in 2024 contributing to systematic reviews, both as project lead and reviewer.

David Aceituno

David Aceituno MD has research experience in systematic reviews, Bayesian evidence synthesis, and statistical analysis. He is also an academic psychiatrist and practising clinician. He recently completed a PhD at Kings College London on the cost-effectiveness of implementing early interventions in psychosis services in Latin America.

Philip Orishaba

Philip Orishaba is an epidemiologist with years of experience as a research fellow in systematic reviews at the Africa Centre for Systematic Reviews & Knowledge Translation. At Clifton Insight, his responsibilities include systematic reviews, survival analysis, and network meta-analysis in various oncology indications.

Daisy Gaunt

Dr Daisy Gaunt has over 10 years' experience as a medical statistician with 50+ published peer reviewed articles. She has completed a NIHR Doctoral Fellowship with additional experience working at Bristol Trials Centre and University of Bristol. Daisy has worked for several years with Clifton Insight, conducting analyses in dermatology and haematology.

Edward Kayongo

Edward Kayongo is an epidemiologist with years of experience in systematic reviews at The Centre for Rapid Evidence Synthesis (ACRES) of Makerere University, Oxford Policy Management, and the Institute for Development Studies. He also completed a fellowship at McMaster Health Forum, McMaster University, as one of the Queen Elizabeth Scholars.

Audrius Stonkus

Audrius Stonkus is a systematic reviewer with previous experience at the National Guideline Centre, at the time one of the biggest guideline centres globally, later acquired by NICE. At the NGC Audrius worked on the development of various clinical NICE guidelines including Sleep Apnea, Gout, Perioperative Care and Hypertension in Adults.

Catalina has an MSc in Epidemiology from the University of Bristol and research experience in evidence synthesis. She also has a background in Medicine, with more than 10 years of clinical experience. Catalina joined Clifton Insight in 2022, and has collaborated as a reviewer in multiple projects.
